My Story: Built in Battle

Hello! I am Jenvieve; Retired Air Force Veteran, military spouse, wife, mom of five, author, master herbalist, BRCA1 & BRCA2 positive, breast cancer prevention warrior, and MST and SA survivor. Like iron is forged in fire, my life battles have forged me into the woman I am today.  I am someone who believes that life is a continuous journey of growth, love and discovery. I am an ardent supporter of the arts and impassioned by reading, writing, music, art, fashion, and creative innovation. I am also passionate about human potential and development, emotional intelligence and empathy, and leadership and interpersonal skill development.

I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I then attended College in Northern California, but ended up joining the Air Force, and I never looked back. Over the years, I have traveled, studied, and worked in various places—each experience shaping my perspective and character. Whether it was pursuing my education in Leadership and Management with Cornell online, working as Security Forces and in Cyber Space Operations in the Air Force, or exploring Human Design, I have embraced every opportunity to expand my understanding of the world, the people, and my place in it.

Healing from Loss to Surviving with a Purpose

When I retired from the Air Force, my transition was difficult, I felt lost without a sense of purpose. I began to lose who I was. I was undergoing prophylactic treatment to prevent breast cancer, ovarian, and cervical cancer; hysterectomy and oophorectomy, my husband had deployed, and I was in a bad place with my extended family. Needless to say I was in a very dark place. On top of the very strenuous transition, I was no stranger to trauma, loss, and personal battles. There were times in my life I thought would never find my way out of crippling anxiety and depression, but a passion for living and compassion from others saw me through my darkest days. These trials and experiences have taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of meaningful connections. At the end of the day, we are all responsible for our own failures and successes in life and I will be successful.

"One day when I look back at my life, I will know that I had the guts to take the trip, buy the shoes, eat the pasta, and love like it was the first time."

When I changed my way of thinking, I changed my outlook on my new life outside of the service. I gained confidence and purpose. Along the way, I have helped others overcome their darkness and thrive in life. I made life one adventure at a time. One day, years from now when I look back at my life, I will know I had the guts to take the trip, buy the shoes, eat the pasta, and love like it was the first time. I am proud to share my story, inspire others, empower women, and offer resilience for other warriors.

Looking ahead, I will continue to support the Breast Cancer Prevention and Breast Cancer community, MST and SA survivors, women in the armed forces and women veterans. Built in Battle Podcast is an integral part of the journey I am on and other women like us are on. At Built in Battle, no matter the battle, one battles alone. Future goals include offering life and relationship mentorship as a service under the Built in Battle Brand. My vision is to empower, strengthen, and instill resilience in women through stories, and life mentorship with the community on the Built in Battle Podcast. I am committed to lifelong learning and constantly seeking opportunities to evolve both personally and professionally.
